Eon Mckai makes interesting porn. Porn that I would recommend, porn that is hot. He’s a straight guy, but the porn he makes has been described as lady friendly, sex-positive. The focus is on art and cinematography and in shooting real alternative boys and girls, there is a little bit of a challenge on what traditional sex roles–and sex– has to be.
Eon’s someone who thinks a lot about sex and has seen his fair share of it, here he shares some ideas about male sexuality and the things we just aren’t talking about.
Do you think porn has changed the way men have sex?
I would expect the men of 30 years ago to fuck a lot different than the men of now– and thank god. This is the road we are on. If men are fucking differently because of porn, then the next step is for a society to realize porn is not what you need to do in real life. Young people will try on a certain attitude or a certain walk to see if it fits them. They might be trying on dirty talk or choking but that doesn’t mean they are with it mentally.
I admire the way young people hook up and date and flirt on the internet, it’s fascinating. Sex to a computer is some of the safest sex you can have– it’s changing society. Now of days, so many girls are naked on the internet and they go on to live a normal life. And I think that will be more and more of the norm.

What is missing from the discussion about male sexuality?
In a breakup, for example, I think women have lot more coping mechanisms that society supports. Men are expected to not care and move on. I don’t know what’s going on at the Moose Lodge and I’m sure that some of those brothers are helping each other out. But in general, it’s hard to help another man emotionally. It’s a pride thing and a societal pressure not to.

You once said it’s important your porn remain sex positive. Can you say more about this?
Veronica Hart taught me how to act in this business, how to treat people. There’s always some kind of pressure from whoever you’re making movies for. They want a certain type of sex, harder sex or whatever they think is gonna sell more movies that month. Veronica taught me that I have to be okay with everything. I have to be able to own everything that happens in a movie. If I can’t understand it, if it’s fucked up and cruel– I can’t shoot. I stuck to that and I’ve only shot things that I had some type of a relationship to.

You also said on a panel that the female consumer’s voice is getting louder everyday.
In my youth, the idea was that no girl would want to look at a dick–the dick is just lucky to be here. So it’s refreshing for men to finally be objectified a little bit.
Why do you think there aren’t more young hot guys in the porn industry?
To be a porn performer is a choice you’ve got to make and it’s a different one if you’re a guy or if you’re a girl. Existing as a male performer has a lot to do with your ability to control your body. You have to force yourself through the situation and make it good. That alone cuts it to like a very particular cross section of the population.

If there were more hot men available, would it change your porn?
I remember once sitting in my office and getting a phone call about Daniel—Danny Wylde- He’s a very attractive performer and also an extremely intelligent, educated young man. I don’t know why the operator let this phone call through. I mean, not that I didn’t wanna talk to this person necessarily, but this type of call should have never gone through the switchboard at a big porn company like this. On the phone is some guy and his wife, like “We like Daniel. Me and my wife, we like Daniel. And so, if you could get some more shots of his butt. That would be great.”
I was like “absolutely. I could definitely get more shots of Daniel’s butt.” But as a guy, it’s really hard to have a sense of how to express and celebrate another man’s sexuality.
I’ve always tried to cast guys that women seem to react to. I have a lot of respect for everyone I’ve ever asked to have sex on camera. But if there were more attractive guys, it probably would change my films. I think it could probably open things up about celebrating male bodies and attractiveness a little bit more.

What have you learned about male sexuality from making porn?
What’s interesting to me is that there is a lot of desperation in the male sex life. Like the desperate desire to have a three way or to have anal sex. From my conversations, I’d say this is what the dinosaur is mostly most fascinated with. It seems that there’s a lot of unfulfilled areas and ideas and there’s desperation about that. But it speaks to the male’s lack of ability to have a dialogue with his partner.
But I think it’s also a bigger problem in terms of marriage and sexuality. Look at Mad Man, Draper’s wife is amazing and I can’t imagine that his wife wouldn’t be down to have mini adventures with him. But for some reason, he can’t. We think that’s not appropriate. And so it falls apart. It’s the inability to make the one partner both of these things, wife and sexual adventurer. I think both men and women both wanna be ambitious and explore the world in a more similar way.
I guess that’s the kind of stuff I thought about since making porn I mean, I don’t know what else I would have learned except for, when James Deen wants to get hard he stands on his tippy toes and jerks off.

This interview fascinated me, esp towards the end where Eon makes cogent points about the need to move towards relationships that fulfill us in our sexual fantasies as well as our daily mundanities.
Research has for 25+ years shown that porn erodes male commitment towards the female partner, apparently due to men’s inherited appetite for casual sex (usually far greater than women’s lust for it), a dopamine reward center that can become accustomed to variety and inured to just one partner as it does so, and the odds that one partner across time in real life will not be as Youthful and/or Beautiful as what’s offered onscreen.
That said, this interview made me wonder if Eon’s way of filming could bring the erotic life back to a stale relationship…and if some porn (if only a tad-bit) is doing more to help than harm stability of LTR’s.
Ooh, Duana I am nerding out about the questions that you bring up. I call Eon’s porn lady-friendly but I couldn’t quite hit the nail on the head as to why. After-all the focus is on the women, even when he casts cute guys. But I think you touched on it…there is something more sensual, more erotic about what he is doing. More about the story-line than the visual. And yeah that mix I think could make it he perfect couple-porn.
Totally amazing interview. We need to have more intelligent conversations about porn like this. Thanks!!
thanks, and maintain up the good work
